WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD) was named to two subcommittees on the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee.

“Serving on these subcommittees will provide a unique opportunity to fight for the everyday needs of Marylanders,” said Alsobrooks. “From making sure a quality and affordable education is accessible for families to creating jobs and defending safe workplaces, I will work alongside my colleagues on behalf of Marylanders.”

The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) has jurisdiction over measures relating to education, labor, health, and public welfare, aging, agricultural colleges, and more:

  1. Arts and humanities.
  2. Biomedical research and development.
  3. Child labor.
  4. Convict labor and the entry of goods made by convicts into interstate commerce.
  5. Domestic activities of the American National Red Cross.
  6. Equal employment opportunity.
  7. Gallaudet University, Howard University, and Saint Elizabeth hospital.
  8. Individuals with disabilities.
  9. Labor standards and labor statistics.
  10. Mediation and arbitration of labor disputes.
  11. Occupational safety and health, including the welfare of miners.
  12. Private pension plans.
  13. Public health.
  14. Railway labor and retirement.
  15. Regulation of foreign laborers.
  16. Student loans.
  17. Wages and hours of labor.
